A sap systems administrator should have the following skills to accomplish their tasks in most of the present organizations which are using sap software. Any network administrator can gain following skills very easily. Any SAP consultant companies may recruits these professionals in their organizations to serve their clients.

  • System administrator should be able to know the architecture of sap web application server.
  • He should know the client/server concepts, sap system configuration types and main characteristics of the java and abap runtime environments.
  • He should be able to list the system processes and services of each instance.
  • He should be able to describe the instance in the java and abap environments, the process of user requests, each component of the work process.
  • He should be able to present the background processing, schedule and monitor jobs.
  • He should be able to describe the query flow using the database interface Open SQL.
  • He should know the differences between a sap and database transaction and about sap transaction concept. He also should be able to define the locks and asynchronous update concept in the sap system.
  • He should be able to configure the sap logon and should be able to describe the logon process and the use of logon groups.
  • He should know how to use the profile parameters and operation modes to configure the sap system.
  • He should know the location of profile files in the windows operating system.
  • He should know the maintenance of system profiles using RZ10 transaction.
  • He should be able to configure and use the online documentation in the sap system.
  • He should be able to list the main analysis transactions in the sap system.
  • He should be able to start and stop the sap system and analyze logs and traces.
  • He should be able to describe the initialization process steps done with microsoft management console in the window operating system.
  • He should be analyze the log and trace files that were generated during the system initialization.
  • He should be able to use several tools to stop a sap instance and should know the procedures for the sap system start and stop in unix, os/400 and os/390 operating systems.
  • He should be able to adjust work processes types and distribution using operation modes and describe the sap library.
  • He should be able to do the remote connection configuration and understand the remote functions.
  • He should be able to describe the RFC interface, configure and test RFC connections using the SM59 transaction.

  • He should be able to access basic data about relational database’s architecture and functions and should know tool used to database administration activities.
  • He should know how a database management system (DBMS) works and how to take backup of data and log data.
  • He should know some basic scenarios of database data recovery.
  • He should be able to schedule activities to be done in the database and verify the result of the activity using the DB13 – planning Calendar transaction.
  • He should be able to understand the authorization test done for every program execution in the sap system; define users, roles and profiles.
  • He should be able to define user master record, authorization and roles.
  • He should be able to describe the SU01 – user maintenance transaction. define authorization objects (its elements and structure).
  • He should be able to describe how the sap system does the authorization test.
  • He should be able to perform the role and profile maintenance using the PFCG transaction.
  • He should be able to assign roles to users and compare the user master record.
  • He should be able to present the necessary configurations for authorizations, obtain data about users and his/her authorizations.
  • He should be able to describe the system parameters for user logon.
  • He should be able to describe the rules for passwords in the sap system.
  • He should be able to verify the user’s information system using the SUIM transaction.
  • He should be able to use the available tools in the sap system for authorization test.
  • He should be able to use the available resources for central user administration (CUA).
  • He should be able to describe the CUA and the data exchange between directory Servers and the sap system.
