Steps to Installing SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 IDES on a desktop or laptop

I have installed IDES SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 successfully last night on my AMD 64 bit machine with 5 GB RAM and 500 GB Hard Disk Drive. It took approximately 12 hours to finish the installation. I have done the following steps to complete the successful installation.

  • I have installed 64 bit Windows server enterprise operating system
  • I have made 500 GB Hard Disk into 3 partitions. The partition sizing details are as follows…

C: 50GB – 5.76GB filled
D: 300GB – 285GB filled with data
E: Remaining – 55GB software size

  • I chose ‘sapdev’ as computer name (Host Name) while installation. You can choose any computer name, but you need solution manager key for the selected host name
  • I have installed Microsoft Loopback adapter and configured static IP address. Loopback adapter can be avoided if your computer on network with a network IP.
  • I have set paging file as 25000 MB minimum – 30000 MB maximum in D drive. Paging file may also be assigned in more than one drive.
  • Copied complete IDES SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 software dump to E drive
  • Installed j2sdk1.4.2_12 and configured JAVA HOME and did path setting
  • Installed Oracle for 64bit processor
  • Started Installation master
  • Chosen proper paths to export DVDs, Kernel, oracle client and given values like SAP SID and Oracle SID as and when installation master insisted me to enter the values
  • Entered solution manager key
  • Got the completion of central services instance screen after 10 hours.
  • Installed presentation server (GUI)
  • Added New item in SAP Logon pad with parameters of the SAP system
  • I have logged into the SAP system using client 001, user name and password

I have taken all the screen shots of above installation. Please write a mail to get them for nominal charges. Please get back to me for remote installation support of ecc 6.0 on your computer, laptop or server. We can also do this installation in a cloud environment for temporary or long term purpose. We can do this installation in a virtual machine (VMWare) for practice on many of the functional and technical sap modules on your laptop without loosing host operating system.

    Hi Raj, What about CRM 7, I have downloaded “SAP ECC v6.0 SR3 IDES oracle 10.2.0.2 ” from torent site which is 48 gb in size. Could you please let me knwo if CRM is there. If I follow your instruction then I will be bale to install CRM in my LAPTOP.

    what will be configuration needed for both version ? or either one version ?

      HI,

      you can setvirtual memory here:

      mycomputer>properties>advanced>performance>settings>advanced>virtual memory>change

      initial size as ram size.
      maximum size as 3*your ram size.

    I am want to create a shortcut ‘sap logon’ on desktop to open SAP ECC 6.0 installed on my laptop in D drive. can anybody help

      Hi Ravi

      Click on SAP Logon from desktop. Select the SAP server and click log-on. Then instead of enter client, user and password, click on generate shortcut button in sap standard toolbar. Provide the information like client, user name…etc in the screen that appears. Make sure the location should be Desktop to get the shortcut on your desktop and click Finish. The shortcut to login to SAP system will be available on the desktop.

    Hi

    after success full installation of ecc6 sr2 on windows2003 server
    all transactions are running successfully except( raising sales order and copy company code data i got one popup menu : Work process restarted session terminated after that if i press ok button respective screen will automatically cloesed) can you please provide a solution for this. i have tried in rz10 and many other ways but i unable to solve it….

    I have collected IDE plug and play hard disk. MM/SD/FI/CO etc are working fine. I want to activate IS_OIL. I tried but I couldn’t. Does anyone know how to do it? I am willing to pay but it has to be through paypal.

      What is your system configuration? How much RAM allocated to VMware Machine. I can tell you the solution to improve the speed of VMware image of SAP installation only when i know the configuration of your computer or laptop.

      I do not know hot to activate BI in existing ECC 6.0. I know how to install BI from separate software. Please get back to me if you are interested to have it installed on your computer. Thanks Raj

      Hi Srinivas, Any laptop with 500GB and 4GB minimum RAM will be good for SAP IDES installation. I prefer to buy DELL laptops always. I think other brands like HP, Lenova, Sony are also good. Look for a better Laptop for practicing SAP modules. Thanks. Raj

    I could see lenova models are cheap compared to dell and HP with high configurations. Should i go for lenova, will the service be good?
    Pls suggest the processor to install all sap modules particulary BW 7.0 , SAP HR and installation of SAP EHp4. Will i3 processor is good? or
    should i go for i5 processor. pls suggest me

      Hi Srinivas, You can buy either i3 or i5. Better you buy i5 if you have sufficient money. Try to buy 1TB and 8GB RAM if you are planing both ECC and BI for better performance while practicing. Although you can install both of these software with 4GB and 500GB, It will run very slowly and should install directly without using any virtual machines. Thanks Raj

    hi

    my laptop is hp pavilion g6 has 650 gb hdd,i5 processor and 4gb ram installed with window 7 64 bit home edition.when i install window server 2003 64 bit it gives me some error in blue screen.when i install window server 2003 64 bit on vmware workstation 6.5 it give error that processor is not compatible with 64 bit. it install only 32bit window server 2003. can i install window server 2008 64bit on my laptop for sap ecc 6 ides sr3.

    actually the 3rd disk data is not getting copy into my laptop…specially ‘SAPAPPL1.007′ file is getting error while copying..
    and the 5th disk is displaying files once, and while copying th files to laptop its also getting error…
    so…. do u hava solution for it ?

    First ECC should be selected…
    Thn in Additional Netweaver Software units….
    What should be selected ?
    AS ABAP and AS JAVA enough for a ABAP student ? Or jst AS ABAP is enough ?

    Is it necessary to select Java Engine while selecting the Software Units during installation ?
    One of my friend said that Java Engine makes the laptop slow…

    Okay so I have the SAP ECC 6.0 IDES with me. Now my internal is 160 GB so I want to install it on the external (500GB). The problem I fear is that once I complete the installation and my external drive appears wth a different letter, then all the paths will become invalid because some of the files will be in my internal. How do I take care of that problem?

    1. Is my lappy fit for installing SAP ?

    I installed SAP ecc6.0 image on my external drive after successful installation
    When i plug it my external drive in my pc and lap top to bot from usb
    Windows 2003 servers start but in few seconds blue screen comes
    Please help me ASAP

      Hi

      What type of image it is. Is it a VMware image or ghost image. If it is ghost image, you have to repair the operating system by keeping OS CD while booting the computer. You have to select the repair option when installer found the previous operating systems. Then it will work without any problem. If it is a Vmware image, you will not get any blue screen errors.

      You can install ecc 6.0 sr3 in your laptop in a virtual machine. Vmware is a virtual machine where you can install windows server 2003 64bit as guest operating system. In the guest you can install ecc 6.0 sr3. I have installation screen shots to install ECC 6.0 SR2 on a 64 bit machine. I will send this word document to your mail account for the payment of $15.     I have installed SRM 7 and want to know how much you would charge to do a simple configuration of my system so the portal would work. I understand that there is a simple configuration template available from SAP that could be used for this purpose.

    Right now i have a laptop DELL with core i3 processor on which windows 7 ultimate is installed. In that windows xp cannot be installed.       Hi
      There is no need to manually configure any database to install ECC / IDES. SAP has configured database software to be nstalled and kept in the RDBMS folder. We need to run simple command which is provided by SAP. RDBMS very simple and quick installation. Only structue of the database software will be installed. If you need further help, please explain about the problem you are getting clearly. I will try to give you the exact solution.
