Recommended hardware requirements to install SAP ecc 6.0 ides sr2 in a personal computer or laptop:
- 250GB + 45GB Hard Disk Space – 250 GB is for actual ides installation and 45 GB is to store software dump which is required for installation, you can remove this dump after completion of installation
- 4 GB RAM to reduce installation time (Minimum 2GB RAM)
- Intel dual core or core 2 duo processor, you may have high speed AMD processor
- DVD Drive to copy all the DVDs into software dump drive
- Good power backup (UPS), you have to do installation from sracth if power goes in between
Recommended software requirements:
- Windows server 2003 with Service pack 2
- You should have mother board or Laptop driver CD
- Office 2003 or later to open installation screen shots
SAP ecc 6.0 ides sr2 installation will be completed approximately in 20 hours with above configuration. This installation time can be reduced further by putting more hardware configuration like quad 2 core processor with 8 GB ram and 1 TB Hard Disk Drive. Please contact me for further details. The configuration you mentioned is very good for SAP Installation and can be installed quickly. the operating system you have on the mentioned laptop is windows 7 home premium is not supported to run oracle and sap. You should have windows server 2003 operating systems to get ecc 6.0 installed on your laptop. After installation of SAP you can install windows 7 as second operating system as dual boot.
You also can try to install Windows Server 2003 in virtual machine and can be installed SAP on that with out loosing your original operating system which came along with laptop.

To avoid the expiring of license of SAP server for practice make your computer date to forward and bring back to the original date after completion of the installation. So this method will help you keep the server available for n number of years depends upon how much forward you keep the system date before starting ecc installation.

You can install all the softwares like ECC 6.0, Solution Manager and BI 7 on same machine. My suggestion is not to install all on single system. Basically any SAP software need more resources like RAM, Hard Disk and processor. So that better allocate one system for each software and configure all in LAN to use all the software components.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I have found out from someone else who suggests I set up a virtual machine to separate solution manager. One more question, Will IDES only run on Windows 2003, can it run on Windows 2008 or is there a problem with the PAM for Oracle 10G, I read somewhere Oracle 10G for SAP will only run on Win2003. BI and IDES will come separately. You need to have both the softwares to practice BI. IDES is 10 DVDS and BI is 3 DVDs. You have to install softwares in separate systems. You also can install in single computer in virtual machines or on Vmware clients. If you are interested i can offer both the softwares to setup an environment where you can practice BI.

Any laptop will come with windows vista or 7 operating system. You can install Windows server 2003 in these laptops by changing SATA options in BIOS. You also can try install server 2003 in a virtual machine ( Windows virtual PC or vmware). In this case you will not loose your original os which will come along with a laptop.
I preferred mostly DELL laptops. So select the good model with the minimum configuration of 4GB RAM and 500 GB HDD. Processor may be more than dual core. Dell studio 15 (S541019IN8) is looking suitable for installing SAP. You also can try other brands like lenovo or HP laptops.

Yes you can install windows server 2003 to install ECC 6.0 on your dell laptop, but you need to make recovery DVDs of your laptop for later restore. After installation of Windows server 2003 you can install windows vista or windows xp as second operating systems for other application use. You can use server 2003 for SAP practice. You also can try installation ECC 6.0 on Virtual machine using VMware ot Virtual PC software. Ask me any more questions.

There is no full license for Demo products. You can try by changing system time to previous date. We used to install SAP by putting date as advance and ring back to original date after completion of installation. In your case only possibility is that to bring system date bak. Please try and and ask if it is not worked.

You can install but you need to have more processor speed, RAM and disk space in your computer to run both the software ECC 6.0 and BI 7.0. I can not provide screen shots for BI 7.0.
