Solution Manager is very important system now a days to install any of the sap netweaver component or product. Any netweaver product you install you need a solution manager key. SAP has made mandate that we need to enter solution manager key while installation of any SAP system. The main intention of the SAP is that each and every sap application server should be registered in solution manager so that entire sap landscape can be managed or administered easily from single location. This is very useful to install solution manager first to install any other sap products. The step-by-step procedure to generate solution manager key is given below. You can use these steps when you have solution manager already installed.
- Type SMSY T-Code and hit enter in solution manager system
- Under Landscape components right click on Systems and click create new system
- Give the system name (Mostly SID you are planing) Ex: DEV, QAS or PRO
- Select the product and product version from the drop down
- Click save – The popped up box will be closed and return to the earlier screen
- Click System and click other object
- Select Other object box will be opened
- Select the system option and type the SID of the system which is created earlier
- Click Generate Installation/Upgrade key (Ctrl+Shift+F10) This button looks like key symbol
- Enter the system number EX: 00, 01, 02…. This number is called instance number. This is very important while installing any sap application
- Click Generate Key tab
- Solution manager key will be generated automatically under the tab
- Use this solution manager key to install any netweaver product
