About Wireless Networks
Wireless networking is also any type of computer network which will work without the help of physical wires and cables. It is one type of method which will be used by telecommunication networks and companies to avoid costly processs of cables. This type of network is also used to connect various locations. Wireless networks are generally working on the basis of transmission system called radio waves. This implementation will be done at physical layer of the network infrastructure.
Mobile computers or notebook computers or well known word laptops and personal digital assistants (PDAs) are the fastest growing segment of the computer industry. Many of the owners of these computers have desktop machines on LANs and WANs back at the office and want to be connected to their home base even when they away from their home. Many people are showing interest on wireless networks because wired networking is not possible in the locations like inside the cars, airplanes. Wireless networks have many advantages. A common one is the portable mobile office. People wants to send and receive emails, send fax, want to connect to their office computers even they are on the road. They want even to read remote office files whenever and wherever they are. Wireless networking is more useful when the people are travelling by road, sea and by air.
Although wireless LANs are easy to install, they also have some disadvantages. Typically they have a capacity of 1-2Mbps, which is much slower than wired LANs. The error rates are often much higher, too, and the transmission from different computers can interface with one another.
I have purchased Belkin wireless Router and wireless USB adapter to connect my desktop computer which is located in main hall. The actual wired airtel broadband connection was fixed in one of the bed room. I have purchased these wireless devices to watch online movies in a LED TV which is located in main hall. My actual connection speed of internet is 2Mbps. I was getting almost 2Mbps speed even through wireless. I am using the same internet connection on all of my wireless devices like my mobile phone, laptop.
I have collected some information about wireless networking and posting here to share with my blog readers.
Wireless local area networks use different types of Wi-Fi standards like IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.11g, 802.11b, IEEE 802.3u, IEEE 802.3 and IEEE 802.11n. Each of these standards released on different years and works at different speeds and up to specified distance. For Example 802.11b works at speeds of 5.5 to 11Mbps and 802.11a/g works from 6Mbps to 54Mbps and 802.11n works upto 150Mbps. Wireless connectivity will work up t 20-70 meters in indoor and 100 to 250 meters on outdoor. Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) obtained a patent in 1992 for method of wireless data transfer technology.
